Camp Zoe Memories

Cabin Clean-up

Cabin clean-up followed breakfast every weekday. We swept the floor, made our beds, and picked up our underwear. Our prize was the cleanest cabin award. Since our competition included several cabins of girls, we didn't stand much of a chance.
An inspector appraised the results after campers departed for morning activities. The camp director or the nurse gave each cabin the white glove test. If your cabin was judged cleanest of the day, the cleanest cabin flag flew over your roof. The flag was actually a small beach towel painted by the arts and crafts people. The flag can be seen in some of the cabin photos in the 1975 Camp Zoe yearbook. I had no first-hand experience with the cleanest cabin reward. A letter I received one summer revealed the prize:

Cabin I won Cabin Cleanup this session so I got a chocolate sundae with a strawberry on top. It was excellent.
