Camp Zoe Memories

Tennis

Our two all-weather tennis courts are busy throughout the day, and are used for special events in the evening.

Camp Zoe Yearbook, 1978

I think the reason they offered tennis as an activity was because they had a tennis court. This country club sport seemed out of place in the Ozark mountains. It's also possible they were catering to their clientele. Camp Zoe had the reputation for being a summer camp for rich St. Louis kids. I signed up for tennis in 1980. I was the lone camper in the activity. They had assigned a counselor and a C.I.T. to teach me tennis and I didn't own a racquet. I told the girls I wasn't a big tennis player. We met at the tennis courts each day but we never played tennis. We talked, soaked up some sun, listened to music, but never played a match. It was a lot of laughs. I'm not sure if this alternative to tennis was officially sanctioned, but we made the most of our time together.
